The puck drops…

The puck drops…

This is a blog about a podcast about the game of hockey. Maybe. Yeah. I think.

This post comes before the first episode is ever posted. It’s quite possible things change before then. Then again, maybe I have finally grown up and learned how to properly put my ducks in a row before pre-emptively barfing out a WordPress site, warbling through a couple podcasts, and burning out in the end and tearing all this down in an angry rage.

Luckily, I don’t think any of that will happen. In fact, by the time you actually get around to reading this, you’re going to wonder just what exactly I ate for dinner this night and if it contained any weird mushrooms, powder, or shards of a questionable substance. Answer: none of the above (thank God).

There are a few reasons I’ve decided to launch this venture, and here they are in no particular order:

  1. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish (at the time of this post) is the best team in NCAA college hockey. There’s a few great stories within the team itself. I feel they’re getting thrown well under the radar and I feel these stories need to be told. I have the lucky privilege of being able to cover Irish home games live (when my schedule allows) and I want to pass my advantage on to you.
  2. I love hockey. Always have.
  3. My interest in other sports (save for soccer) is waning in varying degrees for varying reasons. The NFL betrayed me, the NBA lost me long ago, and MLB doesn’t thrill me like it used to. There, those are short answers. So I need a good productive hobby.
  4. I feel like Northern Indiana should be into hockey more. Maybe this will work, maybe this will be a vain attempt. However…
  5. …I have a tremendous support system with this venture. Tommie Lee is a staunch Chicago Blackhawks and Vegas Golden Knights fan and Darrin Wright bleeds Fort Wayne Komets orange. Even the voice you/you’ll hear on our episode intros, Rob Winters, is an avid hockey fan and helps organize our company’s fantasy hockey league, based out of Fort Wayne. And now, they have outlets for their passions.
  6. It’s gonna be fun. Period.

So, I hope you enjoy this blog and enjoy our podcasts. The final image of what this endeavor will turn out to be will be shaped in the coming weeks and months. This is as much of a great experiment as it is a venture that I hope is successful someday.

Enjoy the ride.
